Nicola 7th May 2019

Bruce loved living in Plymouth because he loved living near the sea. Before that he lived in Southend, but the sea was rather boring there. So in 1968 he was delighted to get a job with Plymouth City Council. He stayed in Plymouth until 2015 when his health dictated that he should move nearer his daughter, Nicky. It was in Plymouth that he bought his first cabin cruiser, a Hurley 18 that he named Nicola. Later he upgraded this to Pentara, and we have a painting of Pentara that hung in his room in the nursing home. I now have it on my wall at home, a lovely reminder of Dad when he was able to enjoy everything that the sailing community of the Tamar River Sailing Club had to offer. One year he was Commodore of the sailing club and we hosted the National Dayboat Championships. He used to crew sometimes for another member of the club who had a Dayboat.
